Bronzeville

Its name recalls a time when this was one of the most vibrant and influential African-American neighborhoods in the country.

In its heyday, many of the nation's top black-owned businesses clustered around 35th Street.

For shopping and nightlife, 47th Street was the place to be. People flocked to the Regal Theater and the clubs to see Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Lena Horne, and other top entertainers.
