IIT is a private, Ph.D.-granting university with programs in engineering, science, psychology, architecture, business, design and law.

It's famous throughout the world for its modern architecture. Mies Van Der Rohe re-designed the entire campus between 1938 and 1958.

The newest building under construction on campus is a student center designed by acclaimed Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. 'L' trains will run through a tube directly overhead.
